About Me
I am a graduate of Skyline High School, where Olympian Michael Johnson and I were close friends. I attended The Ohio State University and have been covering sports in Dallas-Fort Worth for over 30 years.
I spent 19 years at the Dallas Morning News, joining the newspaper three weeks after graduating in 1991, and in 2007 I became the first person in DMN's 122-year history to rise from intern to general sports columnist. These days, I write a weekly column about the Dallas Cowboys during football season.
I currently host JamSession podcast, a sports talk show where we deliver pragmatic, honest opinions about Dallas’ various sports teams. I also teach sports journalism at SMU each spring.
I have covered 25 Super Bowls, two World Series, two NBA Finals, a Stanley Cup Finals, 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, and a host of special moments such as Emmitt Smith breaking the all-time NFL rushing record.
